Frequently Asked Questions

How many years has Canyon of Dolomites been around?

Canyon of Dolomites was one of the first Canyoning organizations born in the Dolomites, we have been accompanying you in the canyons of the area since 2010.

Who are the guides?

Our Guides are UIAGM Alpine Guides with Canyoning Specialization. Our course lasts 4 years and is internationally recognized, our profession is protected by regional and national colleges. We are all independent professionals of the mountain Outdoor in its current maximum expression.

Are dives and slides mandatory?

No, dives and slides are never mandatory, if you don't want to dive there is always the possibility of going down with ropes.

I have never gone down with ropes, can I do Canyoning?

Of course, to do basic Canyoning you don't need previous knowledge and if you prefer, the Canyoning Guide will go down with ropes.

Is Canyoning done with a canoe?

No, Canyoning is not done with a canoe or with other means of navigation. Canyoning is a mountaineering - exploratory activity that uses ropes and other systems to descend canyons carved by water.

Do you have to know how to swim to go Canyoning?

Canyoning in our area is an activity that almost always takes place in water, it is always better to have a minimum of familiarity with this element. Having said that, the 6.5 mm wetsuits that we provide are very buoyant and if you are really afraid, buoyancy aid jackets are provided on request. If you want it, remember to ask!!!

From what age can I bring my children?

This beautiful and fun activity is particularly recommended for boys and children who love adventure and are not afraid of water. The age to start is around 8 years old and it depends a lot on the physical constitution of the child, although our wetsuits for children are the best on the market in terms of thermal insulation, smaller and thinner children tend to lose heat more quickly.

What should I bring with me to carry out the activity in the best way?

Bring with you:
 - your swimsuit already worn, so you don't have to change it there,
- if you want a thermal shirt (the wetsuit can also be worn without, cotton t-shirts are not necessary, in fact they increase the space between the wetsuit and the body, adding water inside)
Trainers with a non-smooth sole or soft and not too heavy - Trekking shoes
- Towel
- Bag or backpack to put in everything that is left in the changing room.

Are the ropes and harnesses up to standard?

To carry out the activity in the best possible way we provide ourselves with the best equipment on the market, all certified by the standards of EUROPEAN CONFORMITY and UIAA (International Union of Mountaineering Associations). The ropes are specific Canyoning ropes that are very resistant to abrasion and suitable for use in water.

What individual material is provided?

Canyon of Dolomites provides all participants with:

- Neoprene socks (the socks we provide are real neoprene socks that serve only to keep your feet warm, the warmth of your feet is important for the well-being of your entire body). These do not come with a sole and cannot be used in place of shoes.
- Specific canyoning neoprene WET suit of 6.5 mm or 5 mm in the height of summer for the hottest canyons. Our neoprene wet suits are the best on the Canyoning market, very warm and resistant to abrasion.
- Specific Canyoning harness with rear plastic protection to avoid ruining the suit in the slides.
- Two bi-lock carabiners with a double cord (longes) are connected to the harness that are used to secure yourself and to be lowered with ropes by the Canyoning Guide; there is also a figure 8 descender connected with a screwgate carabiner to the harness that is used, for those who want it, to lower yourself independently.
- Mountaineering helmet in different sizes.
- The special Canyoning shoes are provided with an extra price of €10 in the Val Maggiore canyon or in others on specific request. In other more difficult canyons the shoes are provided in the delivered equipment and included in the price.

What are the most suitable shoes for carrying out the activity?

There are special Canyoning shoes that have a soft sole with increased grip, these can be provided at an extra price of €10, or you can bring your own sneakers with a non-smooth sole or soft and not too heavy Trekking shoes.

How does dressing work?

When you arrive at our bases you will be given the necessary equipment in your size to carry out the activity. In the changing rooms or on the towels made available by the Canyoning Guide you can start changing. The dressing sequence is:

- first the neoprene shoes, (yours are not needed),
- then the wetsuit and
- lastly the shoes.
- Finally the harness and helmet. If you have never worn a harness

Are wetsuits and shoes disinfected?

Yes! All equipment is disinfected after use with specific antibacterial and antifungal products.

Are there changing rooms?

In our locations in Ponte nelle Alpi (Valmaggiore) and Val Noana we have changing rooms, while in other canyons we change outdoors on a plastic sheet.

Is it possible to take a shower at the end of the activity?

Only in the Ponte nelle Alpi location, even warm or in Val Maor cold. In any case, the water in the streams is generally very clean.

Can I bring glasses or contact lenses into the canyon to carry out the activity?

If you can see well enough without them, it is always better not to bring them. If you prefer to have them with you, get a lace to tie them and when you are in the water you can put them inside the wetsuit. Contact lenses are fine but you have to be careful not to lose them if you want to dive.

Where can I put my valuables?

You can leave valuables in the car and give us only the keys or under lock and key in our houses.

Will the activity still take place in case of rain?

The activity can also take place in case of rain, if the rain is so persistent and/or strong that it does not guarantee the safety of the activity, the latter will be cancelled and the ticket refunded or a Voucher issued at your convenience.

Is there insurance that covers any injuries?

First of all we hope we do not have to use it, and fortunately it has been used very few times over all these years. But certainly, as freelancers we are obliged to have insurance that covers the Civil Liability of each Canyoning Guide up to a maximum covered value of 10,000,000; we also have additional insurance for Canyoning that covers minor injuries.

Can I also pay on site?

If you really can't pay through the portal you can pay on site, be careful in many canyons there is no telephone line and it is better if you bring cash with you.

Can I buy a Gift Voucher?

Yes, of course!

Choose the canyon you want to give as a gift and instead of “BOOK TICKET” select “GIVE A VOUCHER” and the system will automatically generate the voucher that will be sent to you by email. The Lucky person who will receive the voucher will be able to decide when to do the activity by entering the voucher code in the events calendar or by contacting Canyon of Dolomites via Watts’up.

We are Alpine Guides and we are registered with the UIAGM, which is the international union that brings together the national associations of Alpine guides.

The IFMGA is the only organization representing the mountain guide profession worldwide.
